Status Update: AO3 is A-OK, Be Back Soon!!

Edited to add: The OTW Board has amended this post and would like to apologize for the previous wording. It was offensive and insensitive, and we extend our deepest regrets for the poor choice of words and the offense they caused.

This is just a quick message to say that, due to a typo in our DNS, the Archive of Our Own is currently offline for some users. The error has already been fixed but it may take as long as 7 hours to propagate through the system. However we were not hacked or anything and we hope to be up as soon as possible. (Systems is telling us that this was a test of our communication and response teams...oh, wily wily Systems! Also typing is hard!)

We are sorry for the inconvenience and for any alarm. Also, it would be best not to click any links or submit any personal information to any unfamiliar sites.

Systems will have a fuller report on the problem soon for those who want the dirty details. Otherwise stay tuned and thank you for your patience!

I'm having an issue with being redirected to a spam site whenever I try to access AO3. It's happened on both my PC and Mac laptop, and only when trying to access your site, so I'm pretty sure that's where the problem is.

Oh, so that's what's going on! AO3 never stopped working normally for me, but someone on my flist was talking about this. I thought it must be on her end. Glad to know the real reason!

Hi! Could this be the reason that I'm being transferred to a Spam-Site (http://viewster.com/splash/action-trailers-3.html?utm_source=affinity&utm_medium=testads&utm_campaign=AffinityAT2-52664&Subid=52664) whenever I try to access the archive? Otherwise I would have to contact my internet provider.

Thanks for the info!!

That is the reason, it's happening to me too, though I was able to access the site a few times in the past hour without issue. It looks like it'll clear up soon.

I received my invitation to join three days ago after waiting for three months... Was it legit?

Hi!

Yes - the problem didn't actually expose our servers or data at all, it just created a wrong address when people tried to access the site. So your invitation should be fine, and now the problem is resolved it will be fine to sign up!

Apologies for any alarm caused.
