2011 OTW Voters - check your email!

We're a week away from the OTW's 2011 election for seats on our Board of Directors, and all eligible voting members of the Organization for Transformative Works have now been sent voting account information.

If you made a qualifying donation and became a member between 1 October 2010 and 17 October 2011, then you should have an email which includes a unique randomly assigned username, password instructions, ballot instructions, and a link to the 2011 ballot on the OTW Election website (while you can see the page the ballot will be on and a little information there, the ballot itself will not be active or visible until elections open; to see a sample of an active ballot, visit the voting instructions page). If you have not received this email and believe you are a qualified voting member, please contact us! We will also be posting and sending a separate reminder email on the day of the election, prior to the opening of the polls.

At noon UTC on 16 November 2011 polls will open, and that ballot will become active. (What time is that here?) Voting will continue for 48 hours, and the polls will close at noon UTC on 18 November 2011. (What time is that here?)

You won't be able to change your vote once you have cast your ballot, so we urge you to think about your choices. We have six eminently qualified candidates standing for four seats on the board. Our candidates are Julia Beck, Naomi Novik, Lucy Pearson, Betsy Rosenblatt, Nikisha Sanders, and Jenny Scott-Thompson, and you can read more about them and about the OTW's voting process here, on our elections website.

Just to clarify - the link to the ballot is not yet appearing on that form. Is that correct?

Hi! I'm not sure I'm understanding the question. :) The email text that you should have received includes this line:

"Visit the ballot page, here: http://elections.transformativeworks.org/2011-otw-board-election-ballot (This ballot will be inactive until the election period begins.)"

That's the link to the ballot for this year's election. There's also a line in the email with a link to the page on the Elections site that includes a screenshot of an active ballot.

Can you let me know what form you're referring to?

Though I got the qualifying email, and have dutifully changed my password as instructed, there is no link to the ballot either from the website or the email. While I realize that it is not live yet, the wording of both the email and the post indicated that there was a link.
I just visited the link you provide here, and this is all that the screen says:

Current date: 9 November 2011 - 3:21pm
Opening date: 16 November 2011 - 12:00pm
No closing date.

0 out of 841 eligible voters cast their ballot

There is no link to the ballot, nor a screen shot of it, so I am mystified.

I wondered if maybe you all had not credited my donation a few months ago - that happened last year, where there was a glitch. But then I realized I never would have received the email in the first place.

Could this be a browser issue?

Ah! I see. Yes, that's the (inactive) ballot, and that is the link to the ballot. As stated, it isn't yet live, so there's nothing to see. Thanks for clarifying! We're just giving the link at this point.

Down near the end of the email is a link to the page on the elections site with more information about the process, including a screenshot of a sample active ballot.

The text from the email is: "To view a sample ballot, visit http://elections.transformativeworks.org/voting-instructions"

Yes, sorry, I meant to tell you that I can see the screenshot of the sample ballot.

So, just to reiterate for my tiny brain, I should NOT be able to see the actual ballot until it goes live. In the meantime, I just see a line that says "This decision is currently closed."

If that is the case, you might want to say something about it in this post, and ones on DW, so that people like me can understand what's going on. Thanks for your quick and helpful responses!

Yes, you are correct: you should NOT be able to see the actual ballot until the 48-hour election period opens. Until then, you will see the page the ballot will be on and some information (the dates, etc. that you copied), but not the ballot itself.

I've amended the OTW news post and the DW mirror to make this clearer, and I'll ask allisonmorris to update this LJ mirror as soon as she can.
