Introducing your new site mod
It’s celebratory, and instructive. It motivates some and comforts others. It sparks imagination, excites, confounds and infuriates – sometimes all in one breath.
It’s fandom – and we want to talk about it with you here on LiveJournal in a way we hope will support and encourage your fan art journey.
I'm thatwasjustadream, and I'll be here every week to share fannish ideas – stories that caught our eye at the OTW, meta articles, fan studies links, videos, and images that capture what’s most compelling about fandom; the things that spark action and make us want to create rather than just consume. To take the characters and stories we love somewhere new.
I’d like to start by asking for your thoughts: What topics, ideas or concerns would you like to talk about? Are there meta writers and forums that you’d like to share with others? Comment right here – and help get the conversation going!
My own fan work is about writing fanfiction and making videos. It's mostly TV shows and movies that inspire me, but I'm fascinated by the range of amazing fan art I see from gifs and other animations to graphic novels (in print and online), video blogging, and non-linear/interactive storytelling. While this is my background, the OTW Communications team would like to talk about and feature a variety of fandoms and creative mediums. Please tell us what communities or meta writers we should be following at this site, to help us showcase that diverse body of fanwork.
Fandom First Friday
And on the topic of sharing: There is a monthly event coming up next week called Fandom First Friday that you can be part of. On the first Friday of each month, the OTW has highlighted a fan topic on its Tumblr account. Next month, the topic is genderswap, and fans will share thoughts, articles, and art about it May 1st.
We'd love to bring this event here to LiveJournal each month. Please leave your thoughts and links to more on the topic right here this week leading up to Fandom First Friday!
