OTW's first group chat tonight!
Dec. 27th, 2007 04:24 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
(Follow-up to this post.)
Okay, new game plan! Rather than using Campfire, we'll be going with IRC. We have a moderated channel on irc.sff.net, #otw. When people enter the room, they will not be able to speak initially. To allow someone to speak, an op will have to give them voice privs. We will be hosting this chat on Thursday, December 27th, starting at 9:00 p.m. CST/10:00 p.m EST. It will last an hour or so. You can see what time that is for you locally on here.
If you're *sure* you're coming to the chat tonight, please comment below with the name of your handle on IRC. We'll have questions and comments in the order of these sign-ups. If you'd like to comment *with* your question already to save a bit of time, you can feel free to do so, otherwise, just sign up here and the floor will be yours. Please understand that we'll probably be going with a one-question, one-two follow-ups format. Unless of course people do not have questions, in which case - free for all! Or Kylie Minogue videos!
If, during the chat you find that you have something to add/a side comment/question to whatever we're discussing, simply ping Femme or Madelyn and they'll voice you accordingly.
Since this is our first group chat, we'll do our best to ensure it runs as smoothly as possible. But keep in mind, we're new to this too, so bear with us and we'll all get it figured out eventually here.
Now, I'm not what you'd call...IRC-inclined, and I actually had to go to
naominovik to walk me through it slowly, using small words. I personally know a lot of people who just don't use IRC, so this is for you!
NOTE: Please do not ask any technical/troubleshooting questions about how to work IRC in this post - ask your friends, ask your blog readers, whatever, but this is more a really rough starting point for you to use. If you *do* ask questions here, be aware that you're flinging yourself on the mercies of your fellow OTWers because Community Relations just...isn't the group you want answering your troubleshooting questions. *g*

We'll be seeing you soon!
